  • Olive tree plantations have been cultivated in Greece since ancient times. For Greeks, olive oil is a basic part of their daily diet and Greece has the highest consumption of olive oil per capita in the world.

  • Olive oil is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D, K & E, and is resistant to oxidization.

  • Greece produces 400.000 tonnes of olive oil annually and is the third largest producer following Spain and Italy.

  • Greek olive oil is unofficially considered  to be the best in the world.

  • 85% of Greece’s olive oil production is extra virgin.

  • 80% of olive oil is comprised of mono-unsaturated fats, which help keep HDL levels high (“good” cholesterol) and LDL levels low (“bad” cholesterol).

  • Acidity is a key characteristic that categorises the quality of olive oil. The lower the acidity level the better the oil.

  • Homer called olive oil “liquid gold”!
